It’s time for a different approach
About me
David Wilkinson
Managing Partner
A client once said that I had ‘too much personality to be a lawyer’! This is perhaps the best compliment that I have been given and one which very much reflects how I work with clients.
Far too often lawyers and law firms are moulded into a stereotypical image, promoting distance and remoteness from clients, leaving the ‘customer’ apprehensive about taking further advice. This, together with high non transparent charging practices, has fuelled endless criticisms and well-deserved lawyer jokes.
I don’t work like that. I take pride in being approachable and specialise in being affordable. I set Ashbrooke Law up to be like that, a little different.
While your chosen lawyer must have the skills to assist with the matter, they must also be able to engage with you. Without that engagement, the successful completion of the task will be harder than necessary.
My legal career has seen me practice commercial and workplace law in Australia and overseas in senior positions at both boutique specialist and large top tier law firms. I have acted for internationally recognisable businesses, SME’s and family operated companies, colleges and universities, and government. I have written contracts in multimillion transactions, conducted complex workplace investigations for public and private sector organisations and untaken advocacy in multiday trials.
Throughout this I have consistently invested time to understanding the culture and operations of the organisations with which I work, and I have developed strong relationships with the individuals within these enterprises. This has assisted with the services that I have been able to provide and has enabled me to work better for and with them.
Without diminishing the quality of service and professionalism that I provide, regularly feedback has included terms such as ‘good to work with’, ‘personable‘, ‘approachable’ and dare I say it ‘fun’.
To give added context to this, such feedback has often come from clients who I have assisted through some of their most difficult times including business closures and redundancy, during whistleblowing allegations or statutory breaches, and when faced with sexual harassment and bullying allegations.
This approach is often recognised by my professional colleagues. Frequently other law firms and lawyers have instructed me to handle matters of the utmost sensitivity to their practices. My recent experience has included working with other law firms and workplace relations experts in matters where they simply required just that little bit of expert support and guidance.
I adopt a solution driven approach which frequently exceeds client expectations. Feel free to ask me for examples of who I have worked with and what we have achieved, or better still, how I may assist your organisation. I am always happy to chat.
Please take the time to connect with me through LinkedIn and to check out what others have said about the service I provide.
Away from the law, I enjoy spending quality time with my young family and enjoying the beauty of the Sunshine Coast where we live. We are an ‘outdoorsy’ family and will not stop being grateful for each opportunity that life presents.
